Southern Center of Thai Traditional Medicine

       In 1994, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prince of Songkla University had assigned the Departmant of Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Botany to set up a herbal and southern Thai medicine museum as an internal unit within the department. The objective is to create and administer a central source of knowledge about herb by accumulating the dry herb collection as a herbarium, assembling together the knowledge about traditional Thai pharmacy, setting up database of knowledge about herb, providing service for university personnel and general public as well as building up and exhibiting the rural wisdom of southern Thailand regarding the usage of traditional medicine.
       In 1999, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences has set up the Establishment of Southern Center of Thai Traditional Medicine project by combining the herbarium and southern Thai medicine units together. The center, an internal unit with the status of a department in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, is administered and run by a committee.
