In 1988 the curriculum in environmental management was set up with the objective of producing master degree graduates in response to the need of the country; and to support and promote researches in the field of environmental problems in order to bring the research output to those involved in or affected by environmental problems. Emphasis was placed on dissemination of knowledge, skill and methods in solving environmental problems as well as in the impact assessment of the process of economic and social development on the natural resources and environment. In the beginning the graduate programs of study were under the management of the graduate school in the form of multi-disciplinary teaching involving 15 departments in 5 faculties namely, Faculty of Engineering, Sciences, Management Sciences, Natural Resources and Medicine. Recognizing the limitation in management under the Graduate School and seeing the need to set up a faculty to manage these programs in order to support and increase the ability in teaching and research as well as in helping and giving social guidance in the management of environment, the university decided to set up a project to establish the Faculty of Environmental management in 1992. The Faculty of Environmental Management was formally established in 1996. Its administration set up is as follows:
1. Faculty Secretariat Office, 2. Ph.D. curriculum in Environmental Management Unit, 3. Master Degree curriculum in Environmental Management Unit, 4. Wetland Research Unit, 5. Environmental Operation Center, 6. Geographical Information System on Natural Resources and Environment Data of Songkla Lake Basin Research Unit (GIS).
